Kaon identification in the NA62 experiment at CERN

The main purpose of the NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is to measure the Branching Ratio of the ultra-rare kaon decay K+ → π+νν̄ with 10% accuracy. This will be achieved by collecting about 100 events with a Signal to Background ratio of 10/1. NA62 will use a 75 GeV/c unseparated charged hadron beam and a kaon decay-in-flight technique. For the kaon identification a hydrogen gas-filled differen...

Low kaon identification using a TOF system at PANDA

Mandatory for the performance of hypernuclei physics at the Panda experiment, is the production of low momentum Ξ− via the p + p → Ξ−Ξ reaction(See ref. [1, 3]). Because the value of this cross section is likely 4 order of magnitude lower than the one corresponding to the p + p annihilation process, the background suppression plays an important role in the unique identification of hypernuclei. ...

Kaon Physics at Bnl

The rare kaon decay program at BNL is summarized. A brief review of recent results is provided along with a discussion of prospects for the future of this program. The primary focus is the two golden modes: K + → π + νν and K • L → π • νν. The first step in an ambitious program to precisely measure both branching ratios has been successfully completed with the observation of two K + → π + νν ev...

Standard Model Tests at the NA62 CERN Experiment

The physics program of the NA62 experiment aims to search for phenomena beyond the Standard Model by measuring the ratio RK = Γ(K→eνe(γ)) Γ(K→μνμ (γ)) and studying the ultra rare decay K + → π+νν . The status of the RK analysis based on ∼ 40% of the data collected during 2007 and 2008 is summarized and the proposed detector layout to measure the branching ratio of the K+ → π+νν decay is described.

Lepton Flavor violation searches with kaons at NA62

The ratio RK = Γ(K ± → e±ν)/Γ(K± → μ±ν) between the two leptonic decay rates of charged kaons is precisely predicted within the Standard Model (SM). A recent theoretical work noticed that SUSY extensions of the SM can induce mu-electron universality violation in such a way to introduce a shift of the RK value up to few percent respect to SM prediction. Presently the experimental relative error ...
